Home Energy Ratings

A Home Energy Rating is an established measurement of a home's energy efficiency.  As a home buyer, you can easily compare the energy cost of the home being considered by using the energy rating.  A homeowner who wants to upgrade the home's energy efficiency can use the energy rating to evaluate and identify specific, cost-effective improvements, before making the investment.

A Home Energy Rating evaluates and measures your home's energy characteristics.  The following items are just a few things that a home energy rating considers: Construction materials, insulation levels, window efficiency, wall-to-window ratios, air infiltration, lighting, water heating, heating and cooling, the orientation of the house, and the size of the conditioned area in square feet.  The energy rating can be completed from blueprints, on-site visits, or both.

With information now gathered by the raters, data is electronically calculated using a Nationally Approved Software and converted to Points and Stars for your easy comparison.  The more Stars the home receives and the higher the Points, the more efficient your home will be.  The following chart is recognized by lenders, appraisers, builders and Realtors as a quick guide  to your home's energy use.
